tears (artist’s), blessed ocean water, hand-blown glass, epoxy resin, polyurethane varnish
2013 / 2022
The first iteration of the work made in 2013 consisted of a hand blown glass phial filled with tears aggregated during portions of time dedicated to processing and healing from rape in healing ceremonies. The salt and the organic matter in the tears have created a sediment and rings in the phial marked by the decreasing height of the water line as the tears that were collected evaporated. The next evolution of the piece consists of this tear-sediment-laiden phial being filled with the remnants of a ritual held between the artist and another feminist esotericist, centered around sororial love, using ocean water as the carrier fluid for the etheric charge. The phial was then sealed permanently; epoxy resin droplets now pour down the side of the phial, reminiscent of escaped tears.
