About
Human Pictures is a video collage made from appropriated imagery from entertainment media depictions of women scoured from the internet, used in the context of a confessional narrative about the public’s perception of women, and subsequently women’s views of themselves. Carrying on from my previous works surrounding the impact of entertainment media images in relation to womens’ psychological states, Human Pictures addresses the objectification resultant from exposure to entertainment media’s flattened depictions of women, with the intent to raise awareness of one of the most widely spread psycho-sociological ailments of contemporary Western society.

In public space–on the street, particularly–is the primary location where the characteristic experience of denigrations through objectification takes place. The site specificity of this proposed work at the Surrey UrbanScreen makes Human Pictures potent as a vehicle for social sculpture, it challenges the outlook of the public with a simple provocation. Human Pictures has not been exhibited previously.

Logistics / Technical Requirements
The technical requirements for the work are a computer with a video player application.

Special Considerations
The work provides an opportunity for education regarding media representation; taking into account the location of the screen, the final realized work would feature only depictions of women that fall within a level of provocation that are appropriate for all audiences, including children.
